Health facilities across Ukraine continue to operate under difficult conditions placing considerable pressure on the health system.

To help ensure the continuity of critical health services, WHO, together with the Fund of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), has just delivered life-saving medical equipment to frontline-adjacent health facilities across Ukraine.

The most recent deliveries included 15 anaesthesia machines, 8 advanced defibrillator monitors, 15 electrosurgical units, 15 blood warmers, 7 automated biochemistry analysis devices, 1 automated microbiology analysis device, and other essential equipment for health facilities.

This makes it possible to significantly improve the quality and safety of patient care, accelerate diagnostic processes, and strengthen biosafety in laboratories.

What is more, this means improved access to essential health services for more than 10 million people in areas bordering the frontline.

“This equipment has significantly improved both the speed and quality of our work and enhanced biosafety. It allows us to carry out diagnostics more quickly and to share knowledge and experience with colleagues. Thanks to the built-in cameras, we can record laboratory processes, analyse them in detail, and learn from practical examples,” says Yevheniia Viktorivna Filipova, Head of the Laboratory at the I.I. Mechnikov Regional Clinical Hospital in Dnipro.

WHO experts also provided training to health workers to support the effective and safe use of new technologies in their daily work.

“The training helped us better understand how the equipment works and how to use it confidently in practice. We gained a deeper understanding of each step of the process and now apply this knowledge every day, something that was difficult to do before,” Yevheniia adds.

KSRelief has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine’s health system in times of acute strain, and continues to make it possible for health facilities to maintain their capacity to save lives, despite persistent, complex challenges.
